Writing you from NYC! Despite a TON of travel issues yesterday, we made it late last night and were able to enjoy the Eric Church concert at Madison Square Garden. We ended up walking in as he played his first song. Our flight was delayed 5 hours, so we were extremely nervous we were going to miss the show.
Our first full day in the city was so much fun. We started off by visiting Liberty Island, then Ellis Island. The views from the islands are phenomenal, and it was the perfect weather to be outside to admire them. While I never enjoyed history in high school, I truly enjoy walking through historical places (think Ellis Island, Alcatraz, etc.).
After Liberty and Ellis Island, we visited the 9/11 Memorial. This was one of the most breathtaking and humbling experiences of the trip. In a city so loud, it is so quiet by the memorial. It really gives you time to reflect — on the people, the site, the city, and the magnitude of the events that took place September 11, 2001.
After the Memorial, we went to the 9/11 Museum. I’ll admit, it was extremely hard to make it through without getting emotional. I found myself crying multiple times. I encourage you to read this article with the background on this mosaic wall. It was one of my favorite parts of the museum.
Day one was so much fun and I think I have fallen in love with NY! Tomorrow: Times Square, Central Park, and lots of shopping :) Hope you’re all having a FABULOUS weekend! <3
